Organizations have a need to provide information to their customers, partners or other third parties. In some cases, providing access via a Web connection may not be convenient, such as for subcontractors at a construction job site, or distribution of technical manuals to customers. In other cases, the third party will need to bring information into their own system for further use, such as a customer of an imaging or reporting service bureau. Finally, the end user may need to have a snapshot of the information at a particular moment in time, so access to live (possibly changing) data would be inappropriate.
