Databases are used to store information using computers. Comparing a database to the human store (brain) could make things a little clearer why this is so important.

3. Functionality for analyzing information need to be first-class. Analyzing will let you learn from information. It is important to store information but if you could use the stored information in new situations to make better decisions, then you are using the stored information more effective.
