A customized system will avoid all the functionality that you dont need, and go directly to the root of your requirements. For example you may have intelligence built into your product codes, which can be extracted and used to derive bill-of-material and routing information. We used this technique recently, to design, develop and implement a scheduling system for a client, complete with integration to their ERP system, in one day!
