Bluefish Rx Writer is an application for Palm handhelds that streamlines the prescription writing process. With Rx Writer, physicians can manage patient details, choose from a database of over 2,500 drugs, and write prescriptions directly on their handheld in seconds with a few strokes of the stylus.

The doctors signature is biometrically verified on the Palm before sending the prescription electronically to the chosen drugstore. Prescriptions are encrypted for privacy and sent wirelessly using the Palm i705 or Tungsten W (or any Palm OS handheld with Bluetooth phone) to the pharmacy. The pharmacy receives a faxed prescription as required by most states.

Alternatively the physician can beam the prescription to an infrared-enabled printer, sign it and give the copy directly to the patient. Prescriptions can also be beamed to a Bluefish Access Point if a network is set up at the medical center.
