Adapter is a concept used for the possibility to connect to various ERP, SCM, CRM or other essential systems in a standardized way. The adapter-template concept offers a more rational method of connecting to these various systems and to be able to considerably shorten the integration project.

An Adapter, according to Gartner, consists of about 30% of the needed functionality. The rest, 70%, needs to be custom made. The adapters are according to the analyst´s divided into:
- Basic Adapters: how to interface to an application, not what to say, it´s up to the developer.
- Semantic Adapters: understands the interface on a how and what level, for example an inventory request to SAP using IDOC.
