In 1997 Gene Kim and business partner, W. Wyatt Starnes, licensed the Tripwire software from Purdue University and created Tripwire, Inc. Tripwires first commercial product, Tripwire 2.0, was launched in January 1999. It boasted a number of expanded features over the original ASR, including sophisticated reporting capabilities and enhanced security mechanisms. It was enthusiastically received by users of the original version, as well as by new customers. The original product, unchanged since 1992 and not currently supported, is no longer suited for use in production environments. While we dont recommend utilizing 11-year old software, it is still available for download as source code and will compile on most UNIX platforms.
